Whallonsburg Grange Hall seeks Executive Director
The Whallonsburg Grange Hall, a flourishing, year-round nonprofit arts and community center in Essex, New York, in the beautiful Lake Champlain region of the Adirondacks, is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, highly organized, and community-oriented person for the newly created position of Executive Director. \
The Grange offers a wide range of programming to a broad regional area, including concerts, lectures, films, and community activities such as an annual election night dinner and Holiday Market. The Grange’s extensive programming is planned and run by volunteers, giving the organization strong links to local communities. The Grange also owns Whitcomb’s, the building and gardens across the street with three commercial artisan studios, an art gallery, a drop-in community room and unique cultural events. Grange facilities are frequently rented for family parties, workshops, and meetings of local organizations. A certified kitchen is available for small-scale food processing and catering.
The Executive Director should have a passion for the arts and the experience to help develop a creative vision for the Grange’s future development, with enthusiasm for managing a busy and complex operation. They must be resourceful, self-motivated and able to work independently. The Executive Director will be responsible for coordinating programming; communications and marketing; overseeing finances and fundraising; and basic administrative work and facilities management.
In particular, the candidate will:
Work with the Board to further the mission of the Grange.
Serve as the public face of the organization and cultivate relationships with key partners, organizations, the media, and local and state agencies.
Work closely with the volunteer committees that plan and organize the Grange’s programming.
Help to sustain and grow the Grange’s cadre of volunteers.
Effectively market the Grange and Whitcomb’s through traditional and social media.
Manage day-to-day operations, including financial management and ensuring the effective use of resources.
Pursue grant opportunities, work with the Fundraising Committee on biannual appeals and fundraising events and cultivate relationships with major donors.
Manage rentals by external groups and individuals, and Whitcomb’s tenants.
The candidate should have:
Proven leadership experience in nonprofit administration or management.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective partnerships with diverse stakeholders.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience in fundraising and grant writing.
Ability to prioritize and work independently.
The Executive Director will have a 35-hour work week, which will include some evenings and weekends. This is a full-time, hourly-paid position with an annualized salary between $45,000 and $55,000, depending on experience. Benefits include three weeks paid vacation, personal time, and contribution to health insurance.
