The Grange has just negotiated a new agreement with the Town of Essex, which owns this building. Under the agreement, the nonprofit Whallonsburg Grange Hall will continue to operate the Grange as we have since 2008. The Town will pay for heating and lights (maximum of $4,000 per year) and provide some support services (snow removal, grass cutting). Now, the agreement goes to the voters of Essex for approval. The following question will be on the ballot on November 6:
“Should the Town of Essex enter a Memorandum of Understanding with Whallonsburg Grange Hall to operate and maintain the town-owned improved property with an address of 1610 NY-22, Essex, New York, located in the hamlet of Whallonsburg?”
We are asking our friends and supporters to join us to campaign for an overwhelming “yes!” vote. We need your help to talk to all the voters in Essex to ask for their support for the Grange. This is a big job, and we need all the friends of the Grange to join in—whether or not you live in Essex.Campaigning like this will strengthen our ties to the community and help ensure the future of the Grange and all the events and activities that happen here.
Please come to a special kick-off meeting for the Referendum Campaign at 3:00 on Sunday, September 30 to find out how you can help make this important campaign a success!
