The Black Spruce Reading Series is a community-based literary event, co-sponsored by Bell Fire Arts Collective and Whitcomb’s Arts. Black Spruce invites award-winning national and international writers to the North Country in order for them to share their work before a live audience. Donations the night of the readings are greatly appreciated as they provide direct support for the artists. Refreshments are provided.
Dennis Rush kicks off the series. Dennis grew up on a remote tobacco farm near Austin, Kentucky. He is a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha and has an MFA in Creative Writing from Goddard College. He lives in Staatsburg, New York. He has two books of poetry, What Are the Rich Doing Tonight? and MAYFIELD, both published by Dos Madres Press.
Local Writer Christopher Locke will read from his new collection of poetry MUSIC FOR GHOSTS (New York Quarterly Books) and his memoir WITHOUT SAINTS (Black Lawrence Press), both released in 2022. Christopher is the author of 12 books and chapbooks. He received the Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Award, and grants in poetry from Fundacion Valparaiso (Spain), the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts. Chris teaches English at SUNY Plattsburgh
