A collaboration with The Wild Center
May 3 through May 11
Outdoors in the greenspace behind Whitcomb’s
The Clothesline: Food, Fiber, Air and Soil, an installation by artist Brenda Baker, highlights the hard work done in our community by people who work in agriculture, such as maple tappers, beekeepers, farmers, and more, and who practice sustainable farming. The installation was displayed at The Wild Center in Tupper Lake in 2024 and will be returning there in the summer of 2025. The Clothesline features hundreds of pieces of used work attire donated by these workers, symbolizing the often unseen labor that produces the food we consume. Viewers are immersed in the farmer's lives as you walk through and read their stories.
A portion of the installation will be set up in the greenspace behind Whitcomb’s from May 3-11, timed to coincide with the Champlain Area Trails (CATS) Grand Hike on May 10 that will finish right here at the Grange and Whitcomb’s. The exhibit features a video that includes interviews with local farmers and an interactive display with the individual farmers descriptions of the clothing they donated.
You can see the full installation at The Wild Center in Tupper Lake this summer.
