Nichole Gerding, owner of Thankful Sage Farm School, leads this two-hour workshop to introduce the art and science of natural dyes. She will discuss the historic uses of dyes, how to identify and responsibly harvest local dye-producing plants, and how to kick-start your own dye garden. Preparation and dyeing techniques using natural mordants and modifiers are presented. Try your hand at these heritage skills and leave with two hand-dyed tea towels.

Nicky says: I will be providing two kinds of natural dyes for participants to work with, as well as the tea towels for them to experiment with. I will also be providing each participant with printouts and instructions for them to bring home and use on their own.

Instructor: Nichole Gerding, is a farmer, creator, journal-keeper, and teacher who operates Thankful Sage Farm School. You can read all about her on her website. Thankful Sage products (soaps, candles, body products and more) are available at Kit+Syl Studio Store at Whitcomb’s.

$25.00 registration includes materials.

Participants under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Class meets at Whitcomb’s, 1598 NYS Route 22 (corner of Whallons Bay Road) in the hamlet of Whallonsburg, town of Essex. For information contact Kit+Syl Studio at hello@kitandsylstudio.com
