as a center for artisans and handcrafted work.
Photography Basics: Portrait Photography

A portrait is simply a picture of a person. In this class, we will cover different types of photographic portraiture (studio, environmental, “candid”,) tips on composition and posing, simple methods of lighting, and the social aspects of approaching and interacting with subjects. A digital camera with a zoom lens, as well as some experience with photography, are useful, but not required.
Instructor: Barry Goldstein is a photographer specializing in portraiture and documentary themes. Originally trained as a physician and biophysicist, he was the first Artist-in-Residence at the New York University Medical School on September 11, 2001, an experience that led to his collection Being There: Medical Student Morgue Volunteers Following 9/11. His most recent book Gray Land: Soldiers on War, is collection of portraits of, and interviews with soldiers in Iraq and at home. Barry lives in Lewis, New York.
