Watercolor Painting from Still Life, with Kevin Raines

Saturday, October 8
10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Whitcomb's Community Room

This Watercolor Still Life class will be held in the indoor studio setting of the Whitcomb's Community Room. A second class, Watercolor Painting from Photographs, will take place on Saturday, November 12. Students may register for one or both classes.

This class will explore transparent and opaque watercolor processes, and feature traditional techniques of selective wetting, wet on wet, and dry brush. Kevin will introduce and demonstrate each technique while emphasizing compositional placement and still life lighting and atmospheric perspective. The class will then practice each application technique for approximately one hour. Students are encouraged to bring lunch in order to optimize our painting time.

The following still life subject matter will be explored through demonstration:
Flowers - wet on wet technique
Eggs - Selective wetting technique
River rocks - Dry brush technique

Most materials will be provided or you may bring your own. Paper will be available for purchase at a modest price.
