Steven Engelhart is long-time and recently retired executive director of Adirondack Architectural Heritage (AARCH), the private nonprofit, historic preservation organization for the Adirondack region. This work took Steven all over the Adirondack region to explore its communities, discover its architecture, learn its history, and meet its fascinating people. In this presentation, Steven will take us to six places in the North Country to show how buildings embody individual narratives, community history, and broader themes and contexts. You’ll never look at architecture in quite the same way.
During his time at AARCH, Steven developed and led hundreds of outings around the region, gave almost 500 lectures, published four books, was responsible for the preservation and public use of Great Camp Santanoni, and shepherded the restoration of several fire towers.
