The story of the Green Mountain Boys and their battles with the British forces in New York and Montreal parallel and intersect with the story of Lucy Terrace, the first African-American writer. She was enslaved for 30 years and then settled in a farm in southern Vermont where she fought to defend her family against threats to their land and freedom.
