Nestled in the heart of the Adirondack Park there are vast swaths of sphagnum moss stretching across the horizon. Ancient black spruce trees and fields of sedges pepper a dense blanket of green, red, and gold moss. This spongy riot of color and texture conceals another world beneath the surface. What looks like a wide and flat valley is actually a floating raft of vegetation submerged in water. These expansive, floating mats are called peatlands, and their future is in our hands.
Join Charlie Reinertsen to hear about his investigations into Northern Peatlands in Adirondack Park. Learn how these ecosystems can support biodiversity and address climate change. Charlie will share aerial footage and photography from The Northern Peatlands Project, a visual journey through one of Earth's rarest ecosystems. Visit twolined.com/tracks to learn more about The Northern Peatlands Project and to subscribe to monthly news, delivered straight from our peatlands.
